What is the history of wooden mouldings?

Ancient Egypt and Greece both employed wooden mouldings. They were popularised by the Romans, who made them a typical component of ancient European architecture. Wooden mouldings have a long and illustrious history. They are, nevertheless, still in use in the United States and Europe today.
