HOW TO USE HEAT TRANSFER VINYL WITH CRICUT OR SILHOUETTE

PREPARE THE CUT FILE

Executing any craft with heat transfer vinyl will require you to prepare your cutting machine software.

Preparing your cut file is necessary. You will need to prepare your cut file.

Once you have chosen a design, measure the surface to determine its size. Open the file in your cutting software. Next, adjust the design to your liking.

Mirror the Design

The next step is to flip or mirror your design horizontally. When working with heat transfer vinyl, you must reflect your method because the vinyl will have the design cut on the backside.

HTV comes with a transparent plastic carrier sheet covering the top of the vinyl and another with heat-sensitive adhesive.

The heat-sensitive adhesive side isn't sticky or tacky to touch before heating.

You'll cut your design on the adhesive side, while the transparent plastic sheet on the other side holds your craft in place until you patch it on the final surface of what you want to design.

To ensure that your design looks right when applying it to the final surface, you must mirror it first.

Click on your plan to mirror your Silhouette Studio design. Next, click on your project and then go to the Object drop menu. Select "Mirror," and finally, hit the "Flip horizontally."

The process for Cricut is identical. Once you have uploaded your cut file, click on it, and then hit "Flip>Flip horizontally."

That's it. Now your design can be cut.
